When Milwaukee Went to War

This lesson will highlight and introduce students, teachers, and the community, to the many contributions Milwaukee-area industry made to the war effort before, during, and after World War II. Many Milwaukee companies like Allis-Chalmers, A.O. Smith, Bucyrus-Erie, Milwaukee Tool, and others received manufacturing orders for steam-turbines used for destroyers, baby flat-top escort carriers, ‘Victory Ships,’ resistors, switches, electric motors, and more from our own US Government and businesses throughout the world.

Duration: 4 – 5 sessions or Teacher’s discretion
Grades: 3 – 12
