The heart of the War Memorial Center is Veterans Courtyard, where our eternal flame is surrounded by our Honor Roll, inscribed with the names of the 3,481-war dead from Milwaukee County from WWII to present. In 2019, the War Memorial Center launched a major project to begin gathering information, photos, letters, and documents about Milwaukee County soldiers who answered the call to service and paid the ultimate price for our freedom. The information that we and our dedicated staff find, collect, or that is shared with us via the military, social media, family, or friends, is converted into a digital format so the community can research and learn some of the background and history of soldiers listed on the Honor Roll.
A very small number of names are proving extremely difficult to document. If you have information, photos, letters, or documents regarding a fallen soldier from Milwaukee County, please contact the War Memorial Center at 414-273-5533 or education@warmemorialcenter.org.
