This will be a great opportunity for students to learn about the history of the War Memorial Center, our mission, and the people of Wisconsin who answered that call. We will have static display stations throughout the WMC with soldiers, equipment, activities, and materials for students to observe, participate, and ask questions about. Students will have the chance to speak with current and former military personnel (veterans).
The War Memorial Center is proud to provide this opportunity to veterans and current military members to share their service stories with local students of all ages.
Veterans are encouraged to bring items from service for students to look at: photos, letters, documents, books, awards, or even your uniform.
Veterans may speak to several groups of students in a 1.5-hour timeframe. Afterward, veterans are invited to enjoy the exhibits and activities throughout the WMC.
We hope you are able to volunteer your time, experience, and background for this amazing, educational outreach opportunity.
Let us know the Service Experience Day date that is best for you and let us know if you are interested in the coaching session.
The War Memorial Center educational program, “Service Experience Day,” relies on the help of volunteers. They are needed to greet school buses, direct groups to the right place, monitor stations, and provide basic information. When you aren’t doing these things, you are invited to enjoy the programs!
This is a really fun experience and a rewarding opportunity with the chance to meet many local veterans, current military, and make sure our student and visitors have a great experience.
