Purple Heart Memorial
The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy or awarded posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. It is the oldest military decoration in present use.
As a tribute to the servicemen and women who have been awarded this honor, a committee was formed in 2007 with the goal of erecting a Purple Heart Memorial on the grounds of the War Memorial Center.
The Purple Heart Memorial was unveiled on Memorial Day 2008. We believe that all Purple Heart recipients deserve to be remembered, honored and represented by an appropriate memorial at this befitting site.
