Patriot Award Goes to Joe Campbell
Hopefully, you already read about the WMC Patriot Award in Peter Pochowski’s monthly chairman’s letter, but we wanted to share a little more about the very special evening we hosted at the War Memorial on February 20 for a very special person, Joe Campbell.
The event was kept a secret so Joe was surprised with the award in front of family, friends, and his veteran “brothers.” Joe joined the Army in 1966 and was deployed to Vietnam from Feb. 1967-Feb. 1968.
While he says his experiences in Vietnam were “not good,” they turned about to be his “best ally” because it lead him to serving and helping other veterans. That’s exactly what Joe has done ever since.
Joe is a friend to all veterans young and old alike. Here at the War Memorial, he is responsible for driving to New York to pick up and deliver the steel beam from the World Trade Center that is now our 9/11 Memorial. He was also a driving force behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and served on our veteran committee for LZ War Memorial Center. Joe has been a fixture of any WMC event for decades.
We love and appreciate you, Joe Campbell. Congratulations!
