WMC Begins Master Plan for Lakeshore Redevelopment
with Fund for Lake Michigan Grant

The War Memorial Center (WMC) will hold the first of three listening sessions Thursday, July 14 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall, as part of its effort to create a master plan for lakefront stakeholders in the area around the War Memorial Center, north through McKinley Park.

Background

The War Memorial Center was awarded a $75,000 grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan to create a comprehensive master plan for Milwaukee’s Lakeshore Project. The War Memorial Center has engaged a steering committee comprised of representatives from WMC, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee County Parks, and Rotary Club of Milwaukee.

Grant Purpose

The purpose of the grant is to create a comprehensive vision for the lakeshore that includes green infrastructure and environmentally sound components. The plan will work north of Milwaukee’s Lakefront Gateway Project to Lagoon Drive.

The plan will be developed by Milwaukee engineering firms Sigma Group and Short Elliott Hendrickson along with Stormwater Solutions Engineering, UWM, and Gestra Engineering.

Listening Sessions

The focus of the July 14, 2016 listening session is discuss plans for resurfacing and design of the parking lot north of the War Memorial Center.

Future listening sessions are planned for September 20 and October 11 in WMC’s Memorial Hall from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
