WMC Hosts Volunteer Appreciation Lunch

Volunteer Luncheon 2017

Between them, this group volunteered at nearly 10 events, connecting with 1,765 MPS students, other local students, Boy Scouts, Marine recruits and community members, plus thousands more through our Veterans Story Project video series. Pictured, left to right: Mike Malloy (Vietnam veteran), Julian Plaster (WWII veteran), Lowell Mortimer (Vietnam veteran), Craig Shimetz (community member), Bob Pfeifer (Vietnam veteran), Ralph Simoneau (WWII veteran).

On Dec. 15, 2017, the War Memorial Center honored 35 veterans and community members who volunteered for WMC education programs throughout 2017, helping us create memorable experiences for schools, scout groups, senior centers and community members.

Volunteer Luncheon 2017

Gold Star Mother Janice Dahlke (left) and Vietnam veteran Ruby Scheuing both recorded their stories for the War Memorial Center Veterans Story Project in 2017.

Many of WMC volunteers are veterans, who generously shared their stories so that our visitors could get a first-hand account of what it means to serve. Our sincere thanks to all our volunteers from 2017 – and we hope to see you again in 2018!
