Shoreline Master Plan Team Holds Kick Off Meeting
As part of its effort to contribute to the development of a comprehensive master plan for Milwaukee’s Lakeshore Project, the Shoreline Master Plan Team held its first stakeholder meeting on July 14, 2016. Discussions focused on planning for the development of the area from the War Memorial Center north to McKinley Marina, including plans for the North parking lot design.
The meeting, the first of three listening sessions coordinated by the WMC, offered the opportunity for users and stakeholders to offer specific input on parking lot improvements, in the anticipation of meeting an aggressive parking lot concept design deadline. The 20 meeting attendees included:
- Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District
- Fund for Lake Michigan
- City of Milwaukee
- Milwaukee County Parks
- Current tenants
- Steering committee members and design staff.
Great comments were received from the group, including thoughts on future parking, pedestrian and vehicle flow, stormwater treatment practices and site uses. Future listening sessions are planned for September 20 and October 11 in WMC’s Memorial Hall from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
The War Memorial Center was awarded a $75,000 grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan to create a comprehensive master plan for Milwaukee’s Lakeshore Project. The War Memorial Center has engaged a steering committee comprised of representatives from WMC, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee County Parks, and Rotary Club of Milwaukee.
