Great Turn Out for Doors Open Milwaukee!
Nearly 1,000 visitors came to the War Memorial Center for Doors Open Milwaukee, which took place from Sept. 23-24, 2017. Guests got a chance to explore the building and memorials through guided tours, the WMC mobile tour and self-guided tours – and learned more about our mission to Honor the Dead | Serve the Living through exhibits and presentations.
We’d like to thank the following for helping make such a great event: Wisconsin Veterans Museum (war trunks from Desert Storm and the Civil War), American Legion Post 18 (flag ceremony and flag-folding demonstrations), Bill Seaman (historic military bugle and trumpet calls), and Tom Staats (military and City of Milwaukee memorabilia). The Humvee was loaned by Bob Rainek of North American Pinzgauers and Humvees and was outfitted and presented by veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We had many great volunteers to greet and educate our visitors, including WMC Chairman Pete Pochowski and Vice Chairman Mike Pierce, plus the WMC staff and Mike Malloy, James Schmidt, Judith Free, Ruby Scheuing, and Patrick Shea.
